Do you know an adult who cannot read this sentence?
One in 5 adults in Maine are not functionally literate. Poor literacy is associated with poor health, unemployment, and poverty. Literacy Volunteers can help with free individual tutoring for adults with poor literacy skills.
The most important thing parents can do to help their children be ready to read is to have fun sharing books together. Read With Me brings together children, parents, classrooms, and books to experience the joy of reading aloud together.
Both programs are part of TriCounty Literacy, (207) 443-6384) serving individuals, families, in Woolwich and communities in Sagadahoc, Lincoln, and North Cumberland County.
