Dear Woolwich Community Member:

Every winter, low-income and needy families struggle to heat their homes. With the rising cost of oil, it brings a sense of urgency for all of us to work together as a community to ensure the health, safety and welfare of our most vulnerable residents. We can focus our resources towards those people who have fallen through the cracks by not qualifying for General Assistance or are in a bureaucratic process waiting for assistance from other entities.

With the current economic conditions, and Federal and State funds being cut, families in need are receiving less or not qualifying for help at all. In Maine 75% of all households are heated by oil. Oil prices, as we know, are especially subject to seasonal fluctuations as well as external factors.

Taking this into consideration, the Town of Woolwich has responded by creating the “Woolwich Heating Assistance Fund.” This fund is supported by donations from Woolwich citizens and local businesses and
100% of the funds received will go directly to people we assist with heating fuel. With many households still facing increasing financial pressure due to the recession, we are now assisting more families who never expected to be in a position of needing to ask for help.

Each winter, the demand for heating assistance is great. We ask that you consider making a contribution to this fund to support our efforts to keep Woolwich residents warm and safe this winter. By donating, you are truly making a difference in the life of a family in your community.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 442-7094 or email: administrator@woolwich.us

On behalf of all of those who will be benefitting from this fund, I thank you greatly for your consideration.

Donations can be made at the Woolwich Town Office or mailed to:

In the interest of keeping all Woolwich residents safe during natural disasters such as the Ice Storm of 1998 or storms such as what we experienced with Hurricane Irene; the Town would like to compile a confidential list of those people in town who may require some assistance during such events.
